Vice-Chancellor, Nyarko-Sampson Applauds Rotaract Club for Enhancing Student Experience with Bench Donation

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, has lauded the Rotaract Club of UESD for its commitment to improving student life through the donation of eleven (11) leisure benches and four (4) study benches. The initiative, which aims to provide students with comfortable spaces for studying, relaxation, and socialisation, was officially presented to the University in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Auditorium, Multipurpose Building, witnessed by members of the club and some officials of the University. The Rotaract Club is the student arm of the Rotary Club of Ghana, formed in tertiary institution.

Prof. Nyarko-Sampson highlighted the University’s trust in its students to drive positive change, commending the leadership of UESD’s Club Charter President, Mr. Azariah Martey-Korley, a level 400 student. He acknowledged the club’s dedication to service and its role in addressing key student concerns, particularly the need for more seating areas for learning and relaxation.

Mr. Azariah Martey-Korley, UESD’s Club Charter President

Mr. Martey-Korley highlighted that the initiative reflects Rotaract’s commitment to fostering a conducive academic environment. He expressed gratitude to his team for their dedication and to the University community for its support in making the project a reality.

Mr. Patrice Dzontol, UESD Rotaract Advisor, Rotarian

UESD Rotaract Advisor, Rotarian Patrice Dzontol, an Assistant Registrar and School Officer at the School of Sustainable Development (SSD) shared insights into the project’s origins through a successful fundraising and charter dinner in June, 2024.

He explained that the benches address the challenge of limited seating areas for students between lectures and exams, alleviating overcrowding in the cafeteria, which is primarily meant for dining. He also acknowledged the contributions of donors, sponsors, and dedicated Rotaractors, including Project Director Rotaractor Joycelyn and her team, as well as Gerard Abu and Joseph Oshiako and the University community.

The ceremony featured remarks from notable personalities, including the Akosombo Hene, Nana Ansah Prem IV, the President of the Sponsoring Club (Rotary Club of Akosombo), Rotarian Prince Henry Goh, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. (Mrs.) Daniella Delali Sedegah.

The ribbon-cutting was led by UESD Registrar, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyapong, with support from Akosombo Hene Nana Ansah Prem IV, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, Rotarian Prince Henry Goh, and the Chapter President.

With this donation, the UESD Rotaract Club reaffirms its commitment to service and community development, looking forward to future initiatives that will continue to enhance student life and the broader University environment.
