The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) has formalised a strategic partnership with Leaps & Heights Services Ltd, a youth-driven organisation focused on education and training, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 2, 2024. The collaboration marks a significant milestone, aimed at fostering mutual growth in areas such as training, consulting, research, and development.
The signing ceremony, chaired by UESD’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Wiafe Debrah, highlighted the importance of partnerships in advancing educational goals and promoting sustainability. Prof. Wiafe Debrah commended Leaps & Heights Services Ltd for its support of education, specifically recognising the Graduate Award Scheme, which awards the best-graduating students from UESD. The initiative aims to celebrate outstanding academic achievements, particularly in sustainability-related fields, motivating students to strive for excellence.
“This collaboration not only motivates our students to excel academically but also reinforces the importance of sustainability in education,” Prof. Wiafe Debrah remarked, emphasising how such partnerships contribute to the University’s vision of nurturing future leaders committed to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
A representative of Leaps & Heights Services Ltd, Mr. Enock Opare Mintah, expressed the organisation’s commitment to promoting sustainability education, particularly through the Graduate Award Scheme. As part of its corporate social responsibility, Leaps & Heights will provide annual cash prizes and certificates to top-performing students in disciplines focused on sustainability and environmental conservation. This initiative reflects the company’s dedication to empowering students and supporting the development of sustainable education systems in developing countries.
Both UESD and Leaps & Heights Services Ltd expressed optimism about the potential of the partnership. It is expected to enhance academic excellence, promote sustainable practices, and provide opportunities for students to apply their education toward successful careers.
The MoU paves the way for further collaborations, with both institutions committed to maximising the partnership’s impact on education, sustainability, and leadership development. By strengthening UESD’s role in sustainable development, the alliance is set to create lasting opportunities for students and faculty, while positively contributing to the broader educational and professional landscape in Ghana. The signing ceremony concluded with both parties expressing enthusiasm about the future and their shared vision for a sustainable and empowered academic community.
