UESD Holds 5TH Matriculation as Vice-Chancellor Calls for Completion of Stalled Projects

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, has reiterated his call for government support to complete the Phase II Project of the University as well as the administration block to provide adequate teaching and learning spaces to accommodate the growing student population.

He made the appeal at the University’s 5th Matriculation, held in the Auditorium, Multipurpose Building, where four hundred and forty-five (445) students—comprising two hundred and twenty-nine (229) males and two hundred and twenty-six (226) females—were matriculated. The students took the Matriculation Oath and the UESD Honour Code, which were administered by the Registrar, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong.

Prof. Nyarko-Sampson reaffirmed the University’s mission to contribute to environmental sustainability. He urged Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and well-meaning individuals to support the development of the University.

He encouraged the freshers to remain focused on their academic journey and make the most of the resources available to prepare for future opportunities and challenges. He reminded them of the University’s core values—Honesty, Opportunity, Perseverance, and Enterprising (HOPE). He expressed confidence that through the HOPE Roadshow, held few weeks ago, they have been equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to act as agents of change in securing a better environment.

The Vice-Chancellor also advised students to begin brainstorming business ideas to become self-sufficient before graduation, rather than joining the ranks of the unemployed. He highlighted the efforts of the UESD Entrepreneurship Hub, which is rolling out various training programmes to equip students with entrepreneurial skills. Adding that, what they become in future depends on how well they take their chances in life

Delivering their ‘Expectation of University life,’ Mr. Andrew Asante Addai of the School of Sustainable Development (SSD) and Miss. Christabel Owusu Boahin of the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (SNES) expressed mixed emotions as they usher in a new chapter in their lives. They acknowledged the daunting task ahead of them as students but indicated that, their zeal to positively impact the nation and to serve as agents of change, will always urge them on in their four-year stay in the University.

They also urged their colleagues to take advantage of the resources, the state-of-the-art facilities available the and current trends of technology to enhance their learning.

The freshers also appealed to Management of the University for recreational facilities necessary for a blend of academic and social life
