UESD and University of Regina, Canada to Partner

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Prof. Edward Wiafe Debrah engaged with Prof. Raphael Idem, a visiting Professor of Engineering and Entropy in Research in Carbon Capture Technology, and the Chair of the SaskPower Clean Energy Research Institute of the University of Regina, Canada, to exchange ideas on how both Universities can form a partnership.

This meeting was held in the Council Chamber at UESD. Also present were the Acting Dean of the School of Sustainable Development (SSD), Prof. Anthony Amoah, the Dean of the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (SNES), Dr. Francis Shine Gbedemah, and other faculty members.

In his remarks, Prof. Idem noted that the programmes run at UESD are similar to those at the Institute. He emphasized that a collaboration between the two Universities would allow UESD to benefit significantly from the University of Regina’s 50 years of experience as one of the leading Universities in Canada.

The possible areas of collaboration will include a six-month fully funded $600.00 scholarship package for graduate internship students, collaborations relating to engineering, and packages for a category of PhD holders.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wiafe Debrah, expressed excitement about the relationship being established between the two Universities. He also revealed the intention of both institutions to formalize their relationship with the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will explore and outline the areas of partnership and collaboration.

Prof. Idem later made two presentations at a seminar organised by the School of Sustainable Development in his honour. The topics were: “CETRI: What Do We Do Towards Achieving Net Zero Emissions from Production of Energy, Fuels and Chemicals” and “The Need for Clean Energy in Developing Countries: What Can Science Do?”
