UESD and Ghana Institution of Geoscientists Partner

The Ghana Institution of Geoscientists (GhIG) will award a cash prize to the best Geography student of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, at its maiden graduation in November 2024. This was announced during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two bodies in the Council Chamber of the University.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Wiafe Debrah, signed on behalf of UESD, while the President of GhIG signed for the institution. Prof. Wiafe Debrah pledged the University’s unwavering commitment to treating the MoU as a living document that will guide the relationship between the two.

Highlighting some areas of the MoU, the Pro- Vice-Chancellor mentioned that aside from practical internships, curriculum development, and enhancement, among other pertinent areas of collaboration, UESD will also create an enabling environment to bring industry experts together with faculty to provide students with world-class, cutting-edge teaching and learning experiences.

He also stated that the University has implemented all necessary measures to receive its first batch of Geoscience students in the 2024/2025 academic year and urged prospective applicants to visit the admissions portal to apply.

In response, Mr. Ankrah expressed his excitement about the relationship between the Institution and UESD. He pledged GhIG’s full commitment to the MoU for mutual benefit. He also mentioned GhIG’s intention to establish a chapter of the institute on the UESD campus to support the interests of students. Mr. Ankrah urged the University Management to continue its hard work to ensure the smooth running of the University.

He noted that although the programmes may not appear popular at the moment, they will soon gain the recognition they deserve, especially as the world increasingly focuses on environmental protection and sustainability.

Other members at the meeting were; the Ag. Dean of the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (SNES), Dr. Shine Gbedemah; Deputy Registrar, Dr. Hammond Oppong Kwarteng; Dr. Maximillian-Robert Selorm Doku and Mr. Kingsley Kwaah Tandoh, lecturers at SNES and other senior members of the Administration.
