Three Lecturers from the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya in the Eastern Region are the winners of the Korea safety, Health and Environment Foundation’s Global Seed Grant 2023.
The three, who are members of the Smart Environmental Networks Africa (SENA) are; Dr. Kwaku Adu, Department of Applied Economics, Dr Eunice Stella Nyarko and Dr. Kwame B. Bour, both from the Department of Built Environment School of the School of Sustainable Development (SSD) were chosen among twenty-six (26) teams from fifteen (15) countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
The UESD winning team is expected to undertake a six-month project from May to October, 2024, in the Kumasi Metropolis titled: Promoting environmental education and justice through religious diversity in Ghana.
The project focuses on educating communities on the dangers associated with environmental degradation in addition to organising training sessions on environmental policies and environmental justice for six hundred (600) religious leaders and their representatives. Furthermore, the project aims to supervise the master trainers to organise step-down training workshops at their local assemblies.
The grant, by the Korea Safety, Health and Environment Foundation provides grants to researchers in the area of environmental-related issues, and it is open to countries across the world. This year, the foundation selected twenty-six (26) teams from fifteen countries for the final stage of the competition.
