PROF. ERIC NYARKO-SAMPSON (PhD)

 

Professor Eric Nyarko-Sampson, PhD, is the Foundation Vice-Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD). He is a Professor of Guidance and Counselling and holds: PhD in Educational Guidance and Counselling, University of Ilorin, Nigeria; MPhil Guidance & Counselling; MA Human Resource Management; BEd. Psychology, all from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and Teacher’s Cert ‘A’ at Komenda Training College (Komenda College of Education). He also holds a Professional Certificate from the Chartered Institute of Administrators & Management Consultants, Ghana (CIAMC).

Prof. Nyarko-Sampson served in the following capacities at UCC, as: Foundation Dean, Faculty of Educational Foundations, College of Education Studies and Foundation Head, Department of Guidance and Counselling. Chairman, Ghana National Teaching Council, Ministry of Education. Chairman, Board of Governors, Oguaa Sec/Tech, Cape Coast, and Member, National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) Now Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC)).

He serves as: Editor-In-Chief, The Oguaa Educator, Journal of College of Education Studies, UCC; Consulting Editor, Institute Journal of Studies in Education, Institute of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria; National Vice President, UCC Alumni Association. He is the Patron of the following groupings of the Methodist Church: Methodist Guild and Sunday School, Wesley Cathedral at Cape Coast; Methodist Guild and Methodist Choir at Rev. Gaddiel Acquaah Mem. Methodist Church, Abakrampa.

He also served as Chairman on the following committees at the Ministry of Education: Committee on strategy for placement of products of Government’s Free Senior High School Policy, National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE); Committee to ad  vise the Hon. Minister of State for Tertiary Education on Distance Education in Ghana; Committee to consider offer of land with structures for the establishment of a College of Education at Ezinlibo, Jomoro District, Western Region.

He was a member of the following committees at UCC: Education and Programme Accreditation & CPDs Committee, Ghana Psychology Council; Central Regional Media Advisory Committee, (CRMAC); Planning & Resources Committee; Academic Board; Editorial Board, Journal of Educational Development & Practice (JED-P), Institute of Education; Senior Hall Tutor, Atlantic Hall; Hall Tutor, Atlantic Hall; Patron, Atlantic Hall Naval Cadet Corps; University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG); Ghana Psychology Association (GPA); Institute of Public Relations (IPR)-Ghana; America Psychological Association (APA); Alabama Counselling Association (ALCA), and International Society for the Study of Behaviour (ISSBD). He was also a UCC Representative on the Pentecost University College Council; Governing Council, OLA College of Education; National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) and a Representative of the Methodist University College, Ghana (MUCG) Governing Council.

Eric was awarded a Fellowship by the Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) “in recognition of distinguished contributions to the development of the teaching profession at the national and international levels”, the fourth (4th) person in Ghana to receive such award since its inception. He is a licensed and a certified counsellor and a Local Preacher of the Methodist Church Ghana.  

He is married to Margaret, a Deputy Director of Nursing Services.
