A delegation from Bochum University of Applied Sciences, Germany, visited the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, Eastern Region to learn about its programmes.
At a meeting with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UESD, held in the Council Chamber along with some senior members, the leader of the delegation, Prof. Dr. Ing. Semin Severegiz, Head of the Sustainable Technologies Laboratory, said, Bochum University is interested in collaborating with UESD due to the similarities in their programmes.
He mentioned that Bochum’s research focuses on energy, the circular economy, and mobility. He also stated that the team is in Ghana to install hydraulic energy systems in some communities and took the opportunity to visit UESD to discuss potential collaboration.
In response, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UESD, Prof. Wiafe Debrah, welcomed the offer of collaboration and expressed enthusiasm about Bochum University’s interest in UESD. He explained that while UESD currently offers bachelor’s programmes, some Master’s programmes are undergoing accreditation and may commence in January 2025. He also emphasised UESD’s interest in an internationalisation agenda and proposed exchange programmes between the two universities.
Prof. Wiafe Debrah added that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be drafted to formalize the collaboration. The agreement will include joint research funding activities, supervised theses, exchange programmes, and online studies.
