The two-day 4th UESD-FES Sustainable Stakeholder Conference held at UESD was marked by the impressive participation of four students from UESD, who delivered compelling presentations centered on the theme, ‘Green Financing.’ The conference also featured engaging plenary sessions, fostering meaningful discussions and knowledge sharing.
They are: Mr. El Ankrah Eleazer, Environment Economics; Mr. Salisu Sekyere, Level 300 Sustainable Development; Mr. Maxwell Boakye, Level 300 Public Health; and Miss Abena Ansomah Wiafe Debrah, a postgraduate student from the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
In his closing remarks, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of UESD, Prof. Edward Wiafe Debrah, acknowledged the FES-EPCC’s continued collaboration with the University and assured it of Management’s unwavering support to ensure that future conferences will be more successful with increased participation from across the African continent.
The Programmes Coordinator of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Economic Policy Competence Centre (FES-EPCC), Ms. Eunice Asiedu, expressed optimism about Ghana’s quest for sustainable development. She attributed this optimism to the significant contributions by students to academic research and environmental development.
She noted that over the years, at least fifteen students from Levels 200, 300, and 400 have presented research papers in various fields. Ms. Asiedu applauded their thought-provoking presentations, which reflect a deep understanding of global challenges related to climate, energy resources, and environmental protection. highlighted that the students’ zeal and contributions renew her hope for the country, despite recent large-scale environmental and natural resource destruction. She believes these students represent the change needed to safeguard the Ghanaian people.
She promised continued collaboration between FES-EPCC and the university to bring together intellectuals and professionals while nurturing younger generations to brainstorm and provide alternative solutions to the country’s challenges.
The Chairman of the Conference Committee, Dr. Richard Amfo Otu, indicated that the discussions and suggestions gathered from participants will be compiled and presented to the government as a position paper, aiming to derive alternative solutions.
