B.Sc. Development Economics

Admission requirements

An applicant for admission to pursue Bachelor of Science Development Economics degree programme in the University of Environment and Sustainable Development must have the following:

  • West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Holders/Graduates: Credit passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Science and Mathematics, plus any three (3) elective subjects including Economics, and or Elective Mathematics with aggregate score of 24 or better.
  • Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination: Credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Science and Mathematics, plus any three (3) elective subjects including Economics and/or Elective Mathematics with aggregate score of 24 or better.
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Holders/Graduates: Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Besides, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects (or its equivalent) including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for science students).
  • HND/Diploma Applicants

HND holders with relevant background in Economics and Mathematics may be admitted in Third Year of the programme after passing an interview, HND First Class, second class (Upper and Lower) may be considered for admission without an interview. Two-year Diploma holders may be admitted into second year while three years Diploma with distinction may be admitted into third year of the programme without interview. HND/Diploma holders without relevant background will be interviewed for determination of level to be placed.

  • General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) Holders

Applicants must obtain passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, Core Mathematics, and Social Studies/Integrated Science plus any three elective subjects would be eligible for admission into level 100.

  • Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Holders

Applicants with full Diploma in ABCE must have credit passes in five (5) subjects including; English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination, SSSCE or WASSCE. Applicants may be considered for admission at Level 200 of a degree programme.

Mature Applicants

  • The applicant must be at least 25 years old; The applicant must show proof of age with a birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of birth date;
  • The applicant must pass the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination (English Language, Mathematics and a General Paper) and a selection interview conducted for short-listed candidates. Instead of the examination, the applicant should show proof of credit passes in English and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examinations (for qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s aegis).
  • Foreign applicants
  • The applicant must have qualifications equivalent to WASSCE, SSSCE, OND, or GCE ’A’ Level to be considered for admission or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examinations (for qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s aegis).
  • All foreign qualifications are to be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission.
  • Applicants should have their results translated into English
  • Applicants must provide proof of English Language Proficiency.
  • Applicants may also be required to pass an entrance examination and an interview.
