Dr. Jilly Philippa Joel Premkumar holds a Senior Lecturer position at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), located in Somanya, Ghana E/R, at the School of Sustainable Development. Her research interests include gender and development, gender and academia, gender and health, and gender-based violence. She has a strong background in women’s studies. She has eleven years of teaching and research experience and eight years of project management experience in non-governmental organizations. She received her Ph.D. in Women Studies from Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli, South India. She had given research advice to post-graduate students and also handled gender studies courses. Her experience in research includes working on action research projects funded by different agencies. She was a co-investigator in the APAC Research Project Comprehensive Study on Female Sex Workers in the Context of Reformation; a research associate in the ICSSR Research Project Gender Positive Initiatives in Higher Education Institutions; a coordinator of the ANIDA HIV/AIDS Prevention MSHAP Project of Ghana AIDS Commission; and a co-coordinator of the UNICEF Projects “Menstrual Hygiene Management” and UNDEF Project “Training Need Assessment and Situation Analysis of Women Political Leaders”. She worked with the Menstrual Hygiene Management Consortium (MHMC) as a Joint Secretary.
